A woman recently faced issues with her boyfriend after she was discovered recording his conversations with friends and family in different languages. She intended to translate these discussions to find out what he was saying about her.
Residing in Miami, she and her boyfriend share their lives together. Raised in Brazil, he is proficient in both Spanish and Portuguese. While he frequently converses with his friends and family in these languages, she exclusively communicates in English.
In the early stages of their relationship, when everything was going smoothly, her boyfriend would always pause to translate conversations happening in another language for her.
Over the past six months, their relationship has changed significantly. Her boyfriend has revealed a more troubling side, exhibiting severe mental abuse.
Her boyfriend consistently keeps her uninformed, avoiding any discussion about his conversations with friends and family, even when she’s there.
At one time, she and her boyfriend spent several months living with one of his female friends, renting a room in her residence.
Throughout most of the time, she overheard her boyfriend and his friend conversing in Portuguese, which made her suspect that something was happening behind her back.
Driven by curiosity, she started capturing her boyfriend’s conversations using her phone. Whenever they were in the company of others and he spoke in another language, she would subtly activate her phone to record his words.
Later, she utilized a translation app to convert her audio recordings into English. Just last week, she employed the app to translate a conversation she had captured between her boyfriend and a family member.
However, she overlooked the fact that her phone was still linked to her boyfriend’s Bluetooth speaker, a device she had used earlier in their bedroom that day.
“I was in the living room while he was in the bedroom,” she remembered.
“I couldn’t hear anything, so I kept turning up the volume. Meanwhile, my boyfriend heard everything right away and soon discovered that I had been recording his conversations.”
Her boyfriend values privacy deeply and was outraged when he discovered that she had saved recordings of him on her phone.
Her boyfriend expressed his shock and disappointment, emphasizing that her actions had breached not only his own privacy but also that of his friends and family.
She explained, “I asked him to speak openly and honestly in my presence, without filtering his usual comments.”
“I’m relieved I took action, as he was making false and exaggerated claims to his mother, accusing me of abuse.”
Following this event, she and her boyfriend ended their relationship, and he has since been circulating false rumors about her.
