A 90-year-old veteran, who had to pawn his jewelry to care for his wife with dementia, received a heartwarming response when $300,000 was raised for him after his story went viral.
A New Hampshire woman has successfully raised $404,600 to support a 90-year-old disabled U.S. Air Force veteran facing financial difficulties.
Jenelle Marie launched a GoFundMe campaign to support her elderly friend, Donald, when she discovered he was selling his jewelry to cover expenses for his ill wife and rent.
Donald provides 24/7 care for his wife, as noted on their GoFundMe page. The couple, who have no children or nearby family members, is facing a challenging time following his wife’s recent dementia diagnosis.
After Donald’s landlord increased the rent, he began struggling significantly with his bills. He lived in constant worry about the possibility of eviction and the prospect of his wife having to move to a nursing home.
Jenelle shared, ‘I’m actively searching for an affordable rental for him, but I’m also hoping to raise funds to help ease his financial burden.’
Your donations will assist Donald in securing a one-bedroom, ground-floor apartment or house to rent in Manchester, New Hampshire. Jenelle has explored various affordable housing options and resources for him, but the waitlists are currently too lengthy.
Before the fundraiser gained widespread attention, Jenelle presented Donald with an envelope containing $1,300 in cash. This generous contribution came from her, her fiancé, and approximately 25 other supporters.
Donald was deeply touched and overwhelmed with emotion, expressing heartfelt thanks to her. Initially, he hesitated to accept the money, but Jenelle was persistent.
Imagine his surprise when he discovered that people from across the globe had contributed thousands of dollars to support him.
Jenelle shared, “He humbly expressed that no amount of thanks could ever be enough for us and the generous donors. He felt unworthy of such gratitude, calling himself ‘just an ordinary man.’ We assured him that he is far more exceptional than he realizes!”
Thanks to the overwhelming support we’ve received, Jenelle has chosen to extend the fundraiser’s duration.
So far, approximately 14,400 individuals have supported the fundraiser, raising $413,193 of the $425,000 target.
