“Essential services will continue to operate as usual. Emergency personnel will be available, but routine outpatient departments (OPDs) will be closed, and elective surgeries will be postponed. This suspension affects all sectors where modern medicine practitioners are active. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) urges national support for the legitimate concerns of its medical professionals,” stated an IMA press release.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has labeled the recent RG Kar Medical College and Hospital vandalism as a “serious crime” and called for the harshest penalties, including the death penalty, for those responsible. She criticized both the Left (Bam) and BJP (Ram) for their alleged roles in the incident, which occurred on Wednesday night. In response, medical professionals in Kolkata, including doctors and nurses, are holding ongoing protests. Similar demonstrations have also taken place outside AIIMS Delhi.

On August 9, a tragic incident occurred at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, where a woman was reportedly raped and murdered in the institution’s main hall. The incident has significantly disrupted medical services, with students and doctors alike rallying for justice for the resident PG doctor. Videos have captured a large group entering the emergency ward, causing damage to chairs and vandalizing the protest site. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now taken charge of the probe into this grave case of rape and murder.
